Chaplain, Lydia Patterson Institute
We are overjoyed to welcome Rev. Ernesto Barriguete as the new Chaplain of Lydia Patterson Institute!
Rev. Barriguete is a passionate pastor, visionary leader, and bridge-builder in the United Methodist Church who brings heart, imagination, and spiritual depth to every community he serves. As both a pastor and a product of the borderlands, he understands the unique journey our students walk each day — and he sees their faith and determination as holy ground.
With more than a decade of experience in bilingual and multicultural ministry, Rev. Barriguete has helped congregations across the country grow in healing, justice, and discipleship. Most recently, he served as Director of Race Equity and Justice Ministries for the North Carolina Conference of the UMC, where he developed bold strategies for anti-racism and inclusion. He is co-creator of the nationally recognized HEART Curriculum (Holistic Equity Anti-Racism Training) and is certified in the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), helping churches build beloved community across lines of difference.
Rev. Barriguete also serves as Senior Pastor of Bond Memorial United Methodist Church in El Paso. He holds a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School, a degree in Graphic Design from the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, and a certificate in Black and Hispanic Ministries in Prison from Duke. He is currently writing a book titled Loving Well, which supports pastors and churches engaged in cross-racial and cross-cultural ministry.
But beyond his impressive resume, Rev. Barriguete’s heart for students shines brightest in his own words:
“At Lydia Patterson, we don’t just prepare students for college — we prepare them for a life of faith and discipleship for the transformation of the world. Every student's courage and commitment is a living testimony to the hope we are called to nurture.”
— Rev. Ernesto Barriguete, Chaplain, Lydia Patterson Institute
Please join us in warmly welcoming Rev. Barriguete to the Lydia Patterson family. We are grateful for the pastoral care, creative spirit, and deep love he brings to our school — and we are excited for the journey ahead under his chaplaincy.
